These SMS Program Terms describe how text messaging works when you interact with a local business that uses LeadTap™ to power its messaging. LeadTap is a software platform — we don't send messages on our own behalf. The business you contacted is the sender; LeadTap is the technology vendor that operates their messaging infrastructure.
1. Who's Sending You Texts
If you've received a text from a phone number issued through LeadTap (typically because you called or texted a local business and got an automated reply), the text is being sent by that business — not by LeadTap.
Each LeadTap-powered business operates under its own legal entity and is registered with U.S. wireless carriers under that business's name and EIN through the A2P 10DLC framework. LeadTap provides the underlying software platform; the business you contacted is responsible for the content, timing, and lawful basis of every message.
When you reply to a text, you're communicating with that business — not with LeadTap. If you have questions about your service, your appointment, your order, or anything else specific to that business, the best path is to reply to the text or contact the business directly.
2. How You Opted In
You probably arrived at this page because you received a text and wanted to know what's going on. Here's how you most likely came to receive it:
- You called the business and your call wasn't answered: When you call a LeadTap-powered business and the call is missed, the business's system automatically sends a text back to your number. By calling the business, you provided your phone number and indicated interest in their services. Under FCC rules, a responsive informational text-back is permitted on this basis.
- You texted the business first: If you texted the business's number, your text is treated as initiating the conversation, and the business may text you back about your inquiry.
- You filled out a web form or chat widget: If you submitted your phone number through a form on the business's website or chat widget that included SMS opt-in language, you provided consent there.
- You replied YES to a marketing opt-in: If you affirmatively replied YES (or similar) to a marketing opt-in request, you provided Prior Express Written Consent to receive marketing messages from that business.
If you don't recognize the business that texted you, or you believe you received a text in error, please reply STOP immediately and (optionally) email abuse@leadtap.co with details so we can investigate.
3. What Messages You'll Receive
Messages sent through the LeadTap platform fall into two broad categories:
3.1 Informational / Transactional Messages
These are messages directly tied to your interaction with the business. Examples:
- An automated text-back after the business missed your call
- Confirmation of an appointment, reservation, or order
- Reminders about upcoming appointments
- Service updates (e.g., "Your tech is 5 minutes away")
- Payment receipts and order status
3.2 Marketing / Promotional Messages
These messages are sent only if you provided Prior Express Written Consent (a clear, separate opt-in) to receive them. Examples:
- Seasonal promotions and sales
- Loyalty rewards or referral offers
- Win-back or "we miss you" campaigns
- Event invitations
You can opt out of marketing messages without affecting transactional messages, or opt out of everything entirely. See Section 5 for details.
4. Frequency & Rates
4.1 How Often You'll Get Messages
Message frequency varies by business and by your interactions. A typical range is between 1 and 10 messages per month, but this can be higher if you have ongoing service, an active appointment, or other interactions with the business.
4.2 Message & Data Rates
Standard message and data rates may apply per your wireless carrier's plan. LeadTap and the business do not control your carrier's pricing. If you're unsure about your plan's rates, contact your wireless carrier.
4.3 Consent Is Not a Condition of Purchase
You are never required to consent to receive SMS messages as a condition of buying anything from a LeadTap-powered business.
5. How to Opt Out
You may opt out of SMS messages at any time. The easiest way is to reply STOP to any message. The system also recognizes the following keywords as opt-out requests:
- STOP
- UNSUBSCRIBE
- CANCEL
- END
- QUIT
- REVOKE
- OPT OUT
Substantively similar phrases ("please stop texting me," "remove me from your list," etc.) are also honored as opt-out requests.
5.1 What Happens After You Opt Out
After you opt out, you'll receive at most one confirmation message (something like "You've been unsubscribed. You will receive no further messages.") and then no further messages from that business through the LeadTap platform. Per FCC rules effective April 11, 2025, opt-outs are honored within 10 business days.
5.2 Opting Out Through Other Channels
You can also opt out by:
- Contacting the business directly (call, email, or speaking to a person)
- Emailing privacy@leadtap.co with your phone number and the name of the business — we will route your request and confirm action
5.3 Re-Subscribing
If you opt out and later want to receive messages again, contact the business directly to opt back in. The business should not re-add your number without a new affirmative opt-in.
6. How to Get Help
Reply HELP to any message to receive a response with the business's contact information. You can also:
- Contact the business directly using their main line or website
- Email hello@leadtap.co for general questions about the LeadTap platform
- Email privacy@leadtap.co for privacy-related questions
7. Automated & AI-Generated Replies
Some replies you receive may be sent by automated systems rather than typed by a person. This includes:
- The initial text-back after a missed call (template-driven, automatic)
- Appointment reminders and other scheduled messages (workflow-triggered, automatic)
- Some chat widget replies on the business's website (may be template- or AI-generated)
Some businesses using LeadTap may enable AI-powered reply features. When AI features are enabled, replies may be generated by an underlying large language model and may be sent without direct human review of each individual reply. The business is the legally responsible sender of all messages, AI-generated or otherwise.
If a message ever feels off, unclear, or contains an error, you can always reply directly to ask for a human, or reply STOP if you no longer wish to receive messages.
8. Privacy
Your phone number, message content, and any other information you provide to a LeadTap-powered business are handled in accordance with the LeadTap Privacy Policy. Key points:
- We do not sell your information.
- We do not use your messages to train AI models.
- The business you contacted is the controller of your information; LeadTap is the platform processor acting on their instructions.
- SMS opt-in consent data is never shared with third parties for their independent marketing purposes.
9. Carrier Disclaimer
Wireless carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and others) are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Messages may be filtered, blocked, throttled, or delayed by carriers based on their own policies. LeadTap is not responsible for carrier-side actions affecting message delivery.
